Princess Beatrice’s royal wedding hat, which invited criticism from all fashion quarters, is all set to go under the hammer for charity.
The 22-year-old’s extraordinary choice of millinery for her cousin Prince William’s wedding was subject to widespread internet mockery, with comparisons ranging from a giant pretzel to a lavatory seat.
Now Beatrice’s mother Sarah Ferguson has announced that the controversial Philip Treacy creation will be auctioned off for charity on eBay, reported Daily Mail.
“She’s putting it up on eBay to auction it for UNICEF and for children in crisis,” she said on a US TV chat show. As the world assessed the Royal Wedding fashion highs and lows, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were slammed for their choice of outfits.
Beatrice opted for a dusty pink Valentino Couture creation while her younger sister Eugenie went for a figure-hugging Vivienne Westwood design. However, it was the bizarre hat that blew spectators away. But Beatrice staunchly defended the accessory in a recent Grazia interview.
“I think it’s wonderful that its had a reaction, it is just a hat after all, and now it has got its own Facebook page and so many fans. It’s an incredible response to that hat really, I’m glad it provoked so much conversation,” she said.
